…big deal. As the great Winston Wolfe says in Pulp Fiction…well, just watch the video below and you’ll see what he has to say.
He’s now on the right side of this debate, but let’s look at his history with the issue.
In October 2004, Obama said, “What I believe is that marriage is between a man and a woman…What I believe, in my faith, is that a man and a woman, when they get married, are performing something before God, and it’s not simply the two persons who are meeting.”
In 2008 during his campaign, he said, “I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. I am not in favor of gay marriage.”
Why is he changing his mind now? He’s finally seeing that the progressives that voted him into office in 2008 were growing upset with his lack of, well, anything to point to as a progressive accomplishment in his tenure as president (and don’t bring up the Insurance company giveaway that is Obamacare- that’s far from a progressive accomplishment.)
Their threats to either stay home in November or vote for someone else are what caused him to change his mind.
So to everyone that says that I’m “throwing my vote away” or “voting for the Republicans” when I vote for 3rd party or independent candidates, I have two things to say:
- You’re welcome. It is true progressives like myself that showed the Democrats that they can’t count on our votes if they are merely slightly less crazy Republicans. This is why Obama has changed his position.
- Go fuck yourselves. Your acceptance of mediocrity from your elected officials is why they suck. You reward the Democrats with your votes despite them voting against and advocating against things you claim to support (gay marriage, single-payer health coverage, ending the wars, closing Guantanamo, etc.) Stop hurting America by voting for shitheads just because they’re slightly less shitty than the other whackjob.
