Last week I did far better than in week 2, with a record of 9-6-1 against the spread, and 2-2-1 in my best bets. I’m switching the lines I use to be the ones from ESPN’s fantasy Pick ’em game from now on because I’m lazy, and that will make it a lot easier for me to see how well I did each week. Home team is in CAPS.
Buffalo -3.5 over CINCINNATI- The Bills have a high powered offense and the Bengals are a mess- this should be a blowout.
Carolina +6.5 over CHICAGO- Carolina isn’t *that* bad, and the Bears aren’t very good. I think Chicago wins the game, but by a field goal, not a touchdown.
Tennessee +1.5 over CLEVELAND- Matt Hasselbeck has done a nice job making Pete Carroll look stupid for letting him go the way he did. Cleveland beat Miami and Indy. Not an impressive two wins. I’ll take the Titans and the points.
Detroit +3.5 over DALLAS- The Lions are way undervalued, and if I get them plus points against an overrated Cowboys squad, I’m taking it every time.
Minnesota -1.5 over KANSAS CITY- The Chiefs have had a lot of injuries, and Todd Haley has lost the locker room. It’s a race between him and Tony Sporano to see who can get fired first. Minnesota will finally give the ball to All Day Adrian Peterson in the second half, and they should win easily.
Washington +0.5 over ST. LOUIS- I still think the Rams can win the NFC West- they just won’t start that run until a couple weeks from now.
New Orleans -7.5 over JACKSONVILLE- The Saints have a terrible defense, and Drew Brees never really seems to show up until halftime. Despite that, the Jaguars are terrible, and the Saints should win in a laugher.
PHILADELPHIA -6.5 over San Francisco- Alex Smith on the road. Let me write that again, Alex Smith on the road. Take the Iggles.
Pittsburgh +3.5 over HOUSTON- Yes, the Steelers have some issues, but no, the Texans aren’t really a good enough team to take advantage of them.
SEATTLE +4.5 over Atlanta- The Falcons should win the game, but the Seahawks always play tough at home. I’ll take the points.
New York Giants -1.5 over ARIZONA- The national media seems to like the storyline that the Giants are a mess, and that they won’t win very many games this year. Have you watched them play? They’re doing far better than I expected, and they should roll over the Cards.
Denver +13.5 over GREEN BAY- Green Bay will win, and win big, but 13.5 points? Just seems like a little too much. Denver is a bad team, but their defense isn’t as awful as it once was.
OAKLAND +4.5 over New England- The Raiders win outright, validating their season so far and establishing them as the team to beat in the AFC West.
Miami +8.5 over SAN DIEGO- The Chargers will win the game, but not by 8.5. They never seem to put away games the way they should, and if they miss the playoffs this year, Norv will be done.
New York Jets +3.5 over BALTIMORE- The Jets get back on track this week; they were well prepared for the Raiders, they just ran into a superior team. Baltimore also was blown out a couple weeks ago, don’t forget that game.
TAMPA BAY -9.5 over Indianapolis- Indy is terrible, and Curtis Painter is going to start. I’d lay 14 points on this game.
